Less than 48 hours after a heartbreaking loss in the National Championship Game, South Carolina Women’s Basketball made a seismic move in the transfer portal—one that could reshape the 2025 title race.
Ta’Niya Latson, the nation’s leading scorer from last season, officially announced via social media that she’s transferring from Florida State to join the Gamecocks.
Latson, who averaged 25.2 points per game, was considered the biggest name available in the portal. Her impact wasn’t limited to scoring—she also posted 4.6 rebounds, 4.6 assists, and 2.2 steals per game, showcasing her as one of the most complete players in college basketball.

A native of Atlanta, Latson reunites with former high school teammate Raven Johnson, with whom she starred at Westlake High School. Adding to the excitement for South Carolina fans, Johnson confirmed her return for a fifth and final collegiate season.
Latson, with one year of eligibility remaining, brings elite talent, chemistry with key returners, and instant firepower to a South Carolina squad hungry for redemption.
