MiLaysia Fulwiley Breaks Silence on Transfer Rumors: “It’s Not About NIL”
MiLaysia Fulwiley, the dynamic guard who spent two seasons with the South Carolina Gamecocks, has officially entered the transfer portal — but not without shutting down the swirl of speculation surrounding her decision.
After two impactful years under Dawn Staley, Fulwiley is now seeking a new opportunity, ideally with increased playing time. Despite averaging 11.7 points per game in both seasons and earning SEC Sixth Player of the Year as a sophomore, Fulwiley started just three of her 76 games with the Gamecocks.
Many expected the Columbia, SC native to return for her junior year, but her surprise portal entry raised eyebrows and sparked a wave of rumors — particularly around Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) motivations and potential visits.
Addressing the buzz head-on, Fulwiley took to social media to dismiss the gossip as “lies,” emphasizing:
“I’m not chasing an NIL bag.”
She directly refuted claims that her mother was “shopping her around” to programs for lucrative NIL deals, stating clearly that neither she nor her family are involved in such pursuits.
There was also speculation tying her to LSU and Kim Mulkey, with rumors of an imminent visit to Baton Rouge. Fulwiley denied that too, clarifying she has not scheduled any visits and LSU is not necessarily her next stop.

The rumors also extended to Ole Miss, prompting Rebels head coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin to issue her own sharp denial:
“This is fake news… I’m tired of y’all speaking on our name for no reason!”
With the drama surrounding her recruitment escalating, Fulwiley made it clear — this move isn’t about money or hype.
“I’m simply looking for the right place to finish my career.”
As one of the most talked-about names in the women’s transfer portal, Fulwiley’s next step remains a mystery — but she’s making sure the narrative stays in her hands.
