South Carolina Adds 5-Star Talent Agot Makeer to 2025 Roster
The South Carolina Gamecocks have officially signed Agot Makeer, a highly-rated freshman wing and No. 6 overall prospect in the espnW 100 2025 HoopGurlz Recruiting Rankings, the program announced Thursday. The 5-star recruit had previously committed to Dawn Staley’s powerhouse squad on March 1.
“We’re excited to bring Agot into our Gamecock family,” said Coach Dawn Staley in a statement. “She brings size, speed and versatility to our guard unit… Agot is super competitive, talented and has an unlimited ceiling.”
Standing at 6-foot-1 and hailing from Ontario, Canada, Makeer becomes the fourth new addition to South Carolina’s 2025 class, joining Ayla McDowell and transfers Ta’Niya Latson and Madina Okot.

1. McDonald’s All-American Pedigree
Makeer showcased her skills with Team East in the McDonald’s All-American Game, scoring 7 points, grabbing 4 rebounds, and dishing out 2 assists in 16 minutes. She also competed in the 3-point contest and faced off against future teammate Ayla McDowell, who scored 10 for Team West.
At Montverde Academy, Makeer averaged 10.0 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 2.8 assists, helping her team to a 25-1 record and a runner-up finish at the Chipotle High School National Championships. Before Montverde, she starred at Crestwood Prep where she averaged 19.3 points and 7.7 rebounds, leading the team to an undefeated season and an Ontario Scholastic Basketball Association championship.
South Carolina’s roster for the 2024-25 season already featured 10 former McDonald’s All-Americans—Makeer adds even more elite pedigree.
2. International Star Power
Makeer represented Canada at the FIBA U17 Women’s World Cup, leading her squad to a historic silver medal—Canada’s best-ever finish. She averaged 17.7 points, 7.0 rebounds, 4.0 steals, and 2.3 assists, earning a spot on the All-Star Five. In the silver-clinching game, she notched a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double.
3. Nike Hoop Summit Standout
Makeer also suited up for the Nike Hoop Summit, teaming up with McDowell on the World Team. The pair combined for 16 points in a 90-78 loss to Team USA. Makeer started and posted 5 points, 2 assists, and 1 block in 16 minutes.
