COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers may not be done with college football just yet — and if he stays, Miami could be the program to watch.
According to longtime NFL draft analyst Todd McShay, multiple scouts believe Sellers will return for another season instead of declaring for the 2026 NFL Draft. Speaking on The McShay Show this week, the ESPN veteran said there’s “a strong opinion in NFL scouting circles” that the Gamecocks’ young signal-caller “will be back in school next year because he absolutely needs to.”
McShay pointed to the disappointing season South Carolina has endured as a major factor. The Gamecocks entered the year with playoff hopes, but things haven’t gone as planned, potentially making another year of development the best move for Sellers’ career.
What caught everyone’s attention, however, was McShay’s mention of Miami as a possible destination should Sellers hit the transfer portal. While McShay made clear he wasn’t implying any tampering or back-channel communication, he said scouts see the Hurricanes as “the kind of landing spot that could accelerate Sellers’ growth.”

McShay cited Miami’s recent success with transfer quarterbacks — from Cam Ward, who skyrocketed to become the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, to current starter Carson Beck, who’s off to an impressive start — as evidence of the program’s reputation for quarterback development under Mario Cristobal.
The buzz surrounding Sellers isn’t new. Before this season, McShay listed the 6-foot-3, 240-pound dual-threat as one of the top quarterback prospects in the 2026 class, though he also stressed that an additional year of refinement could maximize his draft stock.
While Sellers has not entered the portal or made any official statement, Miami’s proven track record with experienced QBs and a talent-rich offense make it an intriguing hypothetical fit. As McShay summarized, these are the kind of early whispers that circulate among NFL scouts as they project the next wave of quarterback talent — and right now, LaNorris Sellers’ name is at the center of that conversation.
