COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina senior guard Ta’Niya Latson has been named one of the U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) Players of the Week, earning national recognition for her explosive and efficient performances in two Gamecock victories.
Latson delivered an outstanding week, averaging 24.0 points while shooting a blistering 77.3% from the field — leading the team in both categories. She also ranked second on the roster with 4.5 assists per game, directly contributing another 10.5 points to South Carolina’s potent offensive attack.
In the first of the two games, Latson set the tone early, scoring 10 of her 24 points in the opening quarter and going a flawless 7-for-7 from the floor, including two made threes. She entered halftime with 20 points. Against Queens on Sunday, she again flirted with perfection, carrying a 7-for-7 shooting line into the third quarter. She also recorded five assists and three steals, both marking her Gamecock career highs.
Other USBWA honorees this week included Maggie Doogan (Richmond), Azzi Fudd (UConn), Ava Heiden (Iowa), and Clara Strack (Kentucky).
The No. 2/2 Gamecocks are now headed to Las Vegas for the Players Era Championship. South Carolina faces Duke on Wednesday, Nov. 26 at 4:30 p.m. ET, before taking on either No. 3/3 UCLA or No. 4/4 Texas on Thursday. Both contests will be played at Michelob Ultra Arena and broadcast on TruTV.
