For the first time in his tenure as South Carolina’s head football coach, Shane Beamer made midseason firings during the 2025 campaign, dismissing offensive coordinator Mike Shula and offensive line coach Lonnie Teasley as the offense struggled to meet expectations.
On Thursday, Beamer moved quickly to reshape that side of the ball, officially introducing Kendal Briles as the Gamecocks’ new offensive coordinator and Randy Clements as the new offensive line coach.
Those hires naturally raised another key question: what would become of interim offensive play-caller Mike Furrey and interim offensive line coach Shawn Elliott?
While Beamer has not publicly addressed their futures, South Carolina’s official press release announcing the new hires offered a strong clue. Included in the release was a complete list of the Gamecocks’ 2026 coaching staff — and both Furrey and Elliott were listed in their original roles. Furrey is set to return as the wide receivers coach, while Elliott is expected to resume his position as tight ends coach.
The inclusion of both coaches suggests that Furrey and Elliott, who joined Beamer’s staff ahead of the 2024 season and stepped into interim roles after the midyear changes, are projected to remain with the program for at least another year.
Contractually, Furrey is signed through the end of the 2026 season, while Elliott’s deal runs through 2027.
