South Carolina’s 2026-27 non-conference schedule continues to look like one of the toughest in the country.
The Gamecocks officially learned another marquee matchup on Friday when the program announced it will travel to Duke on Dec. 3 as part of the annual ACC/SEC Challenge. The game adds yet another high-profile road test to a schedule already packed with national contenders.
The matchup renews a series that has largely favored South Carolina. The Gamecocks hold a 10-2 advantage over Duke all-time and defeated the Blue Devils 81-70 in overtime during the 2024 ACC/SEC Challenge. South Carolina also knocked off Duke last season during the Players Era Championship in Las Vegas.
This year’s contest will mark the Gamecocks’ first trip to Durham since 2023 and represents another opportunity for Dawn Staley’s program to strengthen its résumé before SEC play begins.
ACC/SEC Challenge Has Been Kind to the Gamecocks
Since the ACC/SEC Challenge was introduced, South Carolina has been perfect.
The Gamecocks enter the 2026 edition with a 3-0 record in the event, including last season’s dramatic 79-77 road victory over Louisville. Winning difficult non-conference games away from Columbia has become a hallmark of the program, and the trip to Duke presents another chance to prove itself against a nationally relevant opponent.
For a team expected to contend for championships annually, these early-season challenges often serve as valuable measuring sticks while helping prepare the roster for the grind of SEC competition and postseason play.
A Loaded Schedule Is Already Emerging
Although South Carolina typically releases its complete schedule closer to the start of the season—last year’s full slate was unveiled in mid-August—many significant matchups have already been revealed.
The season will begin on an international stage when the Gamecocks travel to Paris on Nov. 2 for the Oui Play event against Maryland. The game will carry additional significance for French players Alicia Tournebize and Justine Loubens, who will have an opportunity to play in their home country.
Two weeks later, South Carolina will meet Southern Cal on Nov. 15 in Greenville as part of the second installment of “The Real SC” series. After last season’s meeting in Los Angeles, the rivalry shifts to South Carolina territory.
Another blockbuster showdown arrives on Nov. 24 when the Gamecocks face UConn in the Basketball Hall of Fame Women’s Showcase in Uncasville, Connecticut. The matchup continues one of women’s basketball’s premier modern rivalries and will likely draw national attention.
Several Key Games Still Await Official Dates
A number of notable opponents remain on the schedule even though exact dates have not yet been announced.
South Carolina is expected to face North Carolina in the Ally Tipoff event in Charlotte, while the Gamecocks will also return to the Players Era Championship in Las Vegas.
In addition, previously obtained contracts indicate South Carolina is expected to host Florida Gulf Coast and travel to Providence as part of existing home-and-home agreements. While schedules can always change if both schools agree to adjustments, those games remain likely additions to the final slate.
The annual rivalry game against Clemson is also expected to continue. With last season’s meeting taking place in Columbia, the Gamecocks are due for a return trip to Clemson during the 2026-27 season. It’s worth noting that last year’s game agreement was not finalized until June, meaning official confirmation could still be weeks away.
Early Outlook
What is already clear is that South Carolina is once again embracing one of the nation’s most demanding non-conference schedules. Between Maryland, Southern Cal, UConn, Duke, North Carolina, and the Players Era Championship field, the Gamecocks will have plenty of opportunities to test themselves against elite competition long before March arrives.
For Dawn Staley’s program, that’s nothing new. The philosophy has consistently been to challenge the team early, and the 2026-27 schedule appears to follow that same championship-minded blueprint.
