South Carolina’s frontcourt is putting in the miles again. Both Ashlyn Watkins and Chloe Kitts — each still working through recovery from a torn ACL — missed the entire 2025-26 season but are now returning as key pieces to the Gamecocks’ 2026-27 roster

Watkins tore her ACL in the 2024-25 season and, rather than rush back, announced she would sit out the following season entirely to focus on getting fully healthy. Kitts’ setback came later — she was diagnosed with a torn ACL in her right knee just weeks before the 2025-26 season opener and also missed the full year.

Watkins working on her jumper in a brace, form steady and eyes locked on the rim; Kitts pushing through a live dribbling drill, knee stabilized but movement unrestricted. It’s the unglamorous middle stretch of an ACL comeback — no longer sidelined, not yet game-speed, just reps.

The payoff looks close. Head coach Dawn Staley has confirmed both players will be back for next season, giving South Carolina two experienced, high-motor forwards back in the fold as they reload for another championship push.
