South Carolina Adds Portal Guard Brooke Quarles-Daniels, Bringing Backcourt Depth and Defensive Pedigree
South Carolina women’s basketball has landed a new commitment from the transfer portal, welcoming point guard/guard Brooke Quarles-Daniels to the program. The announcement continues the Gamecocks’ pattern of using “FAMS” and “birdie” language to welcome new additions into the fold, with the program formally introducing her as the newest member of the roster.
Quarles-Daniels arrives with meaningful experience at the Power Four level, most recently at Michigan, where she averaged 5.9 points per game this past season. During her two seasons with the Wolverines, she built a reputation as a defensive playmaker, earning a spot on the Big Ten All-Defensive team while racking up 142 steals — a significant total that speaks to her ability to disrupt opposing offenses and create extra possessions.
Her track record extends further back to her time at Oakland, where she first broke out as a freshman. She was named Horizon League Freshman of the Year, in addition to earning All-Freshman Team and All-Defensive Team honors. Her defensive consistency carried into her sophomore campaign as well, where she picked up Second Team All-Horizon League recognition in back-to-back seasons — underscoring a player who has been a defensive anchor at every stop of her college career.
For South Carolina, the addition fills out backcourt depth as the Gamecocks continue reshaping their roster following Maddy McDaniel’s departure earlier this year, which left the program without a traditional true point guard on scholarship. Quarles-Daniels’ ability to defend at a high level fits squarely into the identity Dawn Staley has built her program around, adding a proven perimeter defender with starting-caliber Power Four experience to a roster that’s otherwise been leaning on freshmen and sophomores to handle primary ball-handling duties.
With the transfer portal addition now official, South Carolina continues to fill out its 2026-27 roster ahead of the season, pairing this immediate addition with a loaded 2027 recruiting class still taking shape on the recruiting trail.
