Former Gamecock Maryam Dauda Added to Nigeria’s FIBA World Cup Roster
South Carolina women’s basketball alum Maryam Dauda has earned a spot on Nigeria’s roster for the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup, replacing Shay Ijiwoye according to the tournament’s official roster listing on the FIBA WWC website.
The addition gives Dauda a chance to represent Nigeria on the international stage as the tournament gets underway in Berlin, running September 4-13. Her inclusion continues what’s been an especially active summer for former and current Gamecocks competing internationally — a list that already includes Agot Makeer winning gold with Canada at the Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournament, Ayla McDowell helping Brazil to bronze at the South American Qualifier, and program legends Aliyah Boston and A’ja Wilson both representing USA Basketball, though Wilson has since withdrawn from the World Cup roster due to health reasons.
Dauda’s addition adds another layer to what’s shaping up as a heavily South Carolina–influenced international summer, with Gamecock ties now stretching across multiple national federations competing on the world’s biggest stage this September.
