South Carolina freshman tight end Caden Ramsey was arrested early Monday morning in Berkeley County on a charge of “racing on a public road.”
The 19-year-old was taken into custody by the Moncks Corner Police Department and booked into the county jail at 4:02 a.m., according to online records. No further details about the circumstances of the arrest were immediately available. Ramsey has a bond hearing scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Monday, per Berkeley County court records — notably falling on the Gamecocks’ regular off day.
South Carolina Athletics issued a brief statement in response: “We are aware of the situation with freshman tight end Caden Ramsey and take matters like this seriously. We reserve further comment at this time.”
The arrest comes just a day after head coach Shane Beamer spoke positively about Ramsey’s development during his Sunday teleconference, saying, “He continues to get better.”
