1. Relief and Excitement About Her Opportunity at South Carolina

Brooke Quarles-Daniels: I’m definitely blessed to have another opportunity to showcase my athleticism and play on this stage. There’s a lot of relief and excitement, but I’m focused on getting back to what I’ve been preparing for.

Analysis: Quarles-Daniels’ comments reflect both gratitude and determination. Having another opportunity to compete at a high level means a great deal to her, and she appears eager to turn that opportunity into on-court production. Her emphasis on getting back to what she has prepared for suggests she is ready to move beyond the uncertainty surrounding her journey and concentrate on basketball.

2. Preparing for the SEC Challenge

Reporter: [Question about her preparation and readiness.]

Brooke Quarles-Daniels: I think I’ve worked my whole life to play at this level. The coaches have been preparing me, my teammates have been pushing me, and our practices have helped get me ready.

This isn’t anything I’m unfamiliar with, regardless of my time at Michigan. I’m looking forward to playing in the SEC and competing on this stage.

Analysis: Quarles-Daniels believes her preparation has equipped her for the demands of South Carolina basketball. She credits the coaching staff, her teammates and daily practices for helping her get ready, while making it clear that she does not view the SEC challenge as something entirely new. Her confidence will be important as she adjusts to the expectations and competition associated with the conference.

3. Why She Chose South Carolina

Reporter: [Question about why she chose South Carolina.]

Brooke Quarles-Daniels: I wanted to go somewhere I would be pushed and be around coaches who are known worldwide for developing players. Playing for a coach who played point guard herself also means a lot to me.

I also wanted to play alongside experienced players like Chloe, Ash, Tessa and Joyce. They’re all capable of being phenomenal at the next level, and I thought playing with them would be a great opportunity to complement my skills and prepare for the next level myself.

Analysis: Her decision to join South Carolina appears rooted in development, competition and the opportunity to learn from experienced players. Dawn Staley’s background as a point guard may also be particularly valuable as Quarles-Daniels continues to develop her own game. By surrounding herself with talented teammates, she hopes to improve while contributing to a roster with high expectations.

4. Finding Her Role in South Carolina’s Versatile Lineup

Reporter: You’ve had different roles throughout your career, from having to do everything at Oakland to serving as a defensive specialist at Michigan. What is your favorite role at South Carolina?

Brooke Quarles-Daniels: I want to do whatever Coach asks me to do. We have a team full of versatile players, and everyone is asked to do different things whenever we get on the floor.

We have a lot of players who can play three or four different positions. At the end of the day, I just want to be a basketball player and contribute wherever I’m needed.

Analysis: Quarles-Daniels is showing a team-first mindset. Rather than insisting on a specific role, she is willing to adapt to South Carolina’s needs. That flexibility could be valuable for Staley, particularly when adjusting lineups, managing matchups or finding the right combinations among experienced players and newcomers.

Her experience in different roles at Oakland and Michigan may also help her understand that contributing to a successful team requires more than scoring. Defense, decision-making, versatility and executing the coach’s instructions can all determine how much responsibility a player earns.

5. How Michigan Helped Her Adjust to South Carolina

Reporter: How has your experience at Michigan helped you adjust and find your role at South Carolina?

Brooke Quarles-Daniels: At Michigan, they call themselves the hardest-working team in America. We were challenged a lot in practice.

Playing with Silas Swords, Olivia Olsen and Mila Holloway also helped me get used to playing at a fast pace alongside dynamic scorers. That experience has made my adjustment to South Carolina easier.

Analysis: Quarles-Daniels credits Michigan’s demanding practices and the experience of playing alongside dynamic scorers for helping her prepare for South Carolina. Competing in a fast-paced environment can improve a player’s ability to make quick decisions, adjust defensively and recognize scoring opportunities.

That background could help her settle into Staley’s system more quickly. Rather than starting from scratch, she can draw on the habits and experience she developed at Michigan as she works to establish her place in South Carolina’s rotation.
