Solomon Sidelined With Practice Injury

Head coach Shane Beamer confirmed that redshirt junior Jalewis Solomon, a reserve defensive back from Ellaville, Ga., will miss Saturday’s game after getting “banged up” during practice. Beamer explained the situation plainly: “Jalewis Solomon, one of our reserve defensive backs. Got banged up in practice yesterday a little bit. He won’t play this week, but outside of that, we’re in good shape.”

Solomon has appeared in eight games across three seasons, including action against Kent State in Week 1. Fortunately, South Carolina’s starting secondary — including Judge Collier and Peyton Williams — remains fully available, meaning the loss shouldn’t significantly impact the unit’s overall depth.

Peak and Stewart Trending in the Right Direction

The bigger storylines continue to be the recoveries of offensive tackle Jacarrius Peak and edge rusher Dylan Stewart, both of whom have yet to see game action this season. Beamer noted both have been practicing in full pads throughout the week leading into the Towson game — a promising sign, even if neither is expected to play Saturday.

More notably, Beamer hinted both players could be ready in time for Week 3 against Mississippi State, which marks the start of South Carolina’s SEC schedule: “Optimistic [about] what that injury report is going to say next week when we have to release it before our first SEC game. Proud of those guys.”

A Manageable Week Regardless

Given South Carolina’s matchup this week, the absences shouldn’t be a major factor in the outcome. The Gamecocks enter as 43.5-point favorites over a Towson team that’s opened the season 0-2 against Maine and Navy — meaning even without Peak, Stewart, or Solomon, South Carolina isn’t expected to need significant contributions from that trio to secure a win.

While fans would obviously prefer to see Peak and Stewart back on the field immediately, getting them healthy in time for the SEC opener represents a strong outcome under the circumstances.
