Head coach Shane Beamer addressed the miscommunication directly, clarifying that both players had different reads on the coverage: “Mazeo thought he was correct in what he was running based on the coverage they were in. LaNorris saw the coverage and what Mazeo did a little bit differently… Certainly both of them communicated it. And at the end of the day, regardless of how he runs the route, I think LaNorris would agree with me that he has to make a better throw and let’s connect on that thing.”
Sellers Downplays Any Lingering Tension
Sellers made clear afterward that the exchange wasn’t a sign of a rift, framing it instead as shared frustration over a repeated issue: “Just two passionate players that want to get it right. We missed on it last week and it’s frustrating we keep missing on it. But we’ve just got to get it right. We just talked about it, got it all out. We’re good now, though.”

Rather than viewing the moment negatively, Beamer seemed encouraged by Sellers’ willingness to hold teammates accountable, something he sees as valuable given Sellers’ standing entering his third year as starter: “I like the fact he continued to be who we see him be. And the willingness to be vocal and challenge guys to get it right.”

The missed touchdown wasn’t an isolated hiccup. Later in the half, Sellers overthrew Bennett on another attempt, and the deflected ball was intercepted by Towson at the Tigers’ 19-yard line. Sellers finished the night 10-of-23 passing for 96 yards — a modest total that reflects the passing game’s struggles overall.
