Former South Carolina Gamecock Aliyah Boston exited the Indiana Fever’s regular-season finale against the Minnesota Lynx on Thursday night with a right lower-leg injury, raising immediate questions about her availability for the WNBA playoffs.

The latest update, however, provides some reassurance.

After Indiana’s 86–66 loss to Minnesota, Fever head coach Stephanie White said Boston experienced a flare-up of the same lower-leg issue she has dealt with previously. White indicated that the decision to keep Boston out for the remainder of the game was made out of an abundance of caution.

Boston leaves late in the first half

Boston exited with approximately 2½–3 minutes remaining in the second quarter. She appeared to be experiencing discomfort in her right leg following a collision with teammate Myisha Hines-Allen and subsequently headed toward the locker room with a trainer.

She did not return for the second half, and the Fever officially announced that she would not return because of a right lower-leg injury. Boston finished the night with 4 points, 3 rebounds and a steal in 13 minutes.

The injury initially created concern because the Fever are preparing for the postseason, but White’s postgame explanation changed the picture.

“Just a flare-up, same lower leg.”

When asked whether Boston was held out as a precaution, White responded affirmatively.

It’s the same lower-leg issue Boston has battled

This is not an entirely new injury for Boston.

She suffered a right lower-leg injury during the offseason while playing in Unrivaled, which forced her to miss the remainder of that competition. The problem also affected her availability early in the WNBA season and resulted in multiple absences.

Boston was also ruled out earlier this season because of the same lower-leg problem and subsequently experienced another aggravation during a July game against Seattle.

That history makes Thursday’s development worth monitoring, even though White characterized the latest episode as a flare-up rather than announcing a new structural injury.

What does this mean for the playoffs?

At the latest update, there is no announced long-term timetable for Boston’s absence.

That distinction is important. The Fever have confirmed the location of the injury and White has described it as a flare-up, but there has been no public announcement of a new diagnosis, fracture, tear or other specific structural damage.

The Fever’s first playoff game is scheduled for Sunday, September 27, meaning Boston has only a short recovery window before Indiana begins its postseason series. Her availability for that game remains something to watch as the team releases its playoff injury information.

A crucial player for Indiana

Boston’s health is particularly important because she remains one of Indiana’s central frontcourt pieces. Her ability to score around the basket, rebound and defend provides balance alongside Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell.

Her absence was felt immediately against Minnesota, although Indiana ultimately lost by 20 points in a game that was already heavily tilted toward the Lynx.

The timing of Boston’s injury also came on a difficult night for Indiana, as Tyasha Harris suffered a separate left ankle injury in the third quarter and had to be carried from the court. White said Harris was still being evaluated after the game.

The Gamecock connection

For South Carolina fans, Boston’s health will be closely followed.

The former Gamecock became one of the most decorated players in South Carolina women’s basketball history before entering the WNBA. She was selected No. 1 overall by Indiana in the 2023 WNBA Draft and quickly established herself as a centerpiece of the Fever.

Now, with Indiana entering the postseason, the immediate priority is keeping Boston healthy.

Latest Aliyah Boston injury status

Injury: Right lower leg
Latest diagnosis/update: Flare-up of the same lower-leg issue she has previously dealt with
Latest game: Ruled out for the remainder of Indiana’s Sept. 24 regular-season finale
Postgame update: Head coach Stephanie White said the decision to hold her out was precautionary
Playoff status: Not yet officially confirmed
Known long-term timetable: None announced as of Sept. 25, 2026

For now, the most encouraging piece of information is White’s description of the injury as a flare-up of the same issue and her confirmation that Boston’s removal was precautionary. Nevertheless, with the playoffs beginning Sunday, her status will remain one of the biggest storylines surrounding the Fever.
