“Fire Shula: Fans Turn on Mike Shula as South Carolina Offense Collapses in First Half Against Oklahoma”

COLUMBIA — Frustration is starting to boil over at Williams-Brice Stadium, as South Carolina fans began booing loudly after the Gamecocks’ third consecutive stalled drive in the first half against No. 14 Oklahoma.

The team’s offensive struggles — including two straight three-and-outs in the second quarter — have sparked chants from the stands calling for offensive coordinator Mike Shula’s job. At the time, South Carolina trailed 14-0 and was forced to punt again after being pushed behind the sticks deep in its own territory.

The Sooners capitalized, finding the end zone on two of their first three drives, extending their early control of the game. By halftime, South Carolina had produced fewer than 100 yards of total offense, while Oklahoma had more than doubled that total.

Quarterback LaNorris Sellers was efficient but limited in opportunities, completing 10 of 11 passes for 70 yards, along with one touchdown and one interception through two quarters. The rushing attack, however, struggled mightily. The Gamecocks totaled just 39 yards on 20 carries, with Rasul Faison leading the way at 44 yards on six attempts, including one long run. Outside of Faison, Matt Fuller and Oscar Adaway III combined for negative five yards on five carries.

Nyck Harbor provided the lone offensive highlight of the half, recording three receptions for 23 yards, including a 12-yard touchdown that put South Carolina on the board.

Adding to the team’s woes, star defensive end Dylan Stewart was ruled out for the game after suffering a hip flexor injury early in the first quarter. Stewart initially tried to return after a trip to the locker room and was seen warming up on the sideline, but after one brief appearance, he limped off again and had his pads removed — officially ending his day before halftime.

With a restless crowd and a struggling offense, South Carolina entered the locker room searching for answers — and momentum — against a confident Oklahoma team in full control of the matchup.
