“Gamecocks Hit by Midweek Injury Blow: Two Key Players Doubtful Ahead of Ole Miss Showdown!”

South Carolina Injury Update: Beamer Confirms Maurice Brown II’s Return, Two Key Gamecocks Doubtful for Ole Miss Clash

South Carolina tight end and special teams ace Maurice Brown II, who left the Alabama game with an injury, is expected to be available for Saturday’s matchup against Ole Miss, head coach Shane Beamer confirmed this week.

However, the SEC’s Wednesday availability report listed two other Gamecocks as doubtful — wide receiver Jayden Sellers and defensive back Buddy Mack III. Offensive lineman Cason Henry remains out for the season due to injury.

Sellers, the younger brother of quarterback LaNorris Sellers, had been one of South Carolina’s emerging offensive weapons. He led the team in receiving against Oklahoma two weeks ago and earned a start against Alabama. Despite his current injury designation, Sellers spoke with reporters Tuesday and appeared in good spirits, acknowledging the physical toll of SEC play.

“He’s just a football player,” Beamer said of Sellers. “And you guys have heard me say that before. The moment is never too big for him. He just loves competing and having fun, and when the ball’s in his hands, good things happen. It’s just very natural for him. He’s an instinctive guy.”

Buddy Mack III, another player listed as doubtful, has been an important contributor on special teams.

The Gamecocks are eager to have Brown back in uniform after losing him early against Alabama. Beamer said his absence was felt immediately.

“We lost Moe Brown, which you guys know, what a weapon he is on special teams,” Beamer explained. “We lost him to an upper-body injury, I think, on the first punt, when they punted. So he didn’t play the whole game, which is a big loss, because he’s such a weapon.”

Beamer continued, emphasizing Brown’s versatility and importance to both special teams and offense.

“He’s a star on every special team that we have,” Beamer said. “And then we wanted to be able to get him going a little bit more today on offense, being able to get us 10-15 plays in there. So we lost some of that from a tight end standpoint, and then certainly, we lost our best special teams player.”

The next availability updates are scheduled for Thursday and Friday, with a final report released 90 minutes before kickoff. Beamer is also expected to share more details during his Thursday night call-in show.

The SEC’s player availability system, implemented last season, requires teams to submit reports three days before each football game, updating them daily until game time. Designations include available, probable, doubtful, and questionable before game day, while the final report lists players as available, game-time decision, or out — similar to the NFL format.

The Gamecocks face the Ole Miss Rebels on Saturday at 7 p.m. ET inside Vaught-Hemingway Stadium, with ESPN carrying the national broadcast.
