Joyce Edwards’ dominant sophomore season at South Carolina wasn’t just a program-defining performance — it was a national statement. Now, the stage gets even bigger.
Edwards has been named to the USA Basketball 3×3 Women’s Series team set to open competition this Friday in Chengdu, China, adding another international chapter to what is already becoming one of the most decorated young careers in American women’s basketball.
She’ll be joined on the roster by a familiar face in MiLaysia Fulwiley — her former Gamecocks teammate, now at LSU — alongside LSU guard Mikaylah Williams and Oklahoma forward Sahara Williams. The combination of Edwards and Fulwiley gives Team USA an established core, as both players competed together on USA Basketball’s 3×3 Nations League team last summer, going 14-2 and claiming the tournament title in Punta Arenas, Chile.
For Edwards specifically, the international résumé is quietly becoming remarkable. Although last summer marked her 3×3 debut, she has collected three gold medals in 5-on-5 competition — winning the 2023 U19 World Cup alongside future Gamecocks teammate Chloe Kitts, the 2024 U18 AmeriCup, and the 2025 AmeriCup. At every level she’s been asked to compete, Edwards has won.
That winning pedigree is backed by numbers that speak for themselves. As a sophomore, Edwards averaged 19.2 points, 6.8 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 1.8 steals per game for South Carolina — a performance so prolific it shattered the program’s single-season scoring record with 768 total points. The honors followed accordingly: first team All-SEC and second team AP All-American recognition confirmed what anyone watching already knew.
The 3×3 format will test a different dimension of Edwards’ game — faster, more physical, and with far less room to hide than the traditional five-on-five setting. But given everything she’s shown at the college level and on previous international assignments, there’s little reason to doubt she’ll adapt seamlessly.
Team USA opens play Friday, May 1 against the qualifying draw winner at 2:00 am ET, followed by a matchup against Australia at 3:40 am ET. Quarterfinals, semifinals, and the final all take place May 2, with the title game tipping at 6:00 am ET. All games stream live on YouTube. The series then moves to Manila, Philippines the following week, with the Americans opening May 6 at 11:00 pm ET against Warsaw.
Joyce Edwards is already one of college basketball’s brightest stars. On the global stage, she’s showing she belongs in an even bigger conversation.
