South Carolina football will sport a one-time special helmet design Saturday against Towson, swapping the program’s traditional Block C logo for a cartoon version of Cocky, the school’s beloved rooster mascot. The black glossy helmets feature Cocky posed in a Heisman-style stance.

Honoring a Hall of Fame Induction

The unique decal celebrates Cocky’s induction into the Mascot Hall of Fame, and according to reports, the design will be worn exclusively for this single game against Towson.

The Artist Behind the Design

The cartoon version of Cocky currently in use was created by Kev Roché, an Irmo native, and first unveiled in 2021. Roché designed a football-specific version of the character a few years later — the same design now appearing on Saturday’s helmets. Notably, Roché, a devoted Gamecock fan himself, had no advance knowledge his artwork would be used this way. He told The State he discovered the news the same way most fans did: scrolling X/Twitter before the game.

Cocky’s Hall of Fame Class

Cocky was officially elected to the Mascot Hall of Fame on August 7, joining a 2026 induction class that includes Goldy Gopher (University of Minnesota), Cosmo (BYU), Miles (Denver Broncos), and Mrs. Met (New York Mets).
