Taylor Brown Sets Commitment Date: Here’s Why South Carolina and Dawn Staley might Land Another Bird in the Nest

South Carolina’s inclusion is significant because the Gamecocks only offered Brown in May, yet the relationship developed quickly enough for her to take an official visit to Columbia on the weekend of Sept. 18.

previous report is that Brown visited South Carolina alongside fellow 2027 targets Jezelle “GG” Banks and Jordyn Palmer. The group attended South Carolina’s football game against Mississippi State and participated in several activities around campus and the basketball program.

Brown also has a connection to Banks, as the two previously played together at Ursuline Academy in Delaware. That existing relationship could be an additional factor in how Brown views South Carolina’s recruiting class and backcourt.

Commitment date: Brown, a 4-star guard, will announce her decision Saturday, October 3rd at 2 PM, two days from now.

South Carolina visit: Head coach Dawn Staley, along with Lisa Boyer and Jolette Law, made the trip to see Brown in person today. The visit came shortly after she cut her list to three. Having the head coach and two staff members make the trip right before a decision shows South Carolina is prioritizing her and wants to be the last voice she hears.

Her top 3:

  • South Carolina
  • Tennessee
  • UNC

My estimated odds: There is no reliable public recruiting prediction that establishes exact percentages for Brown, so the following should be treated as an analytical estimate, not reported commitment odds.Based on the available information — finalists, visits, timing, staff involvement and South Carolina’s need for future backcourt talent — my estimated distribution would be:

ProgramEstimate
South Carolina~45%
Tennessee~30%
UNC~25%

Reasoning:

  • South Carolina’s edge: The full-staff visit is the freshest, strongest public signal in the excerpt, and Staley’s program has a track record of closing on top guards.
  • Why it isn’t higher: Finalists almost always make final-week contact, so the visit alone isn’t decisive. It doesn’t say whether Tennessee or UNC also visited, or whether she has any predictions or leanings.
  • Tennessee and UNC: Both are real contenders since she kept them over everyone else. Without reported visits or insider predictions, I can’t separate them confidently, so the 30/25 split is a soft call.

These percentages are my judgment from limited information. They aren’t based on recruiting-analyst predictions or insider reporting. So Those numbers are my assessment from the publicly available recruiting information, not official or reported commitment percentages.

Tennessee remains a serious contender

Tennessee shouldn’t be overlooked.
Brown made an official visit to Knoxville on June 25, giving the Lady Vols an opportunity to establish an early relationship before South Carolina’s September visit. Tennessee also made Brown’s final three, confirming that the program remains firmly involved.

The Tennessee connection also has an interesting recruiting angle. Brown was initially recruited by Tennessee assistant Bill Ferrara, who had previously been at Florida State before moving to Tennessee.
