WATCH: MiLaysia Fulwiley Opens Up on South Carolina Exit — Drops Subtle Dig at Dawn Staley While Embracing New Chapter at LSU

Former South Carolina standout MiLaysia Fulwiley made one of the most talked-about moves of the offseason when she transferred to LSU, joining head coach Kim Mulkey and a powerhouse roster. After two years as a key rotational player for the Gamecocks, Fulwiley decided it was time for a change — and her recent comments suggest she’s already thriving in her new environment.

During a Wednesday media availability, the dynamic guard reflected on her transition to Baton Rouge and appeared to throw a subtle jab at her former coach, Dawn Staley, when explaining why she made the move.

“You know it’s been a big transition, but in my opinion, I think it’s been great for me,” Fulwiley said. “Just growing as a person, on the court and off the court. I’m learning a lot, but I’m excited about learning, so it’s been good.”

When asked directly about why she chose LSU, Fulwiley didn’t hold back.

“I just wanted to go to a program that’s also in the SEC because I like the SEC,” she explained. “Also want to go to a program where I can still compete for a national championship and still play for a great coach — a coach that kind of knows what they’re doing, and I kinda trust her.”

While Fulwiley didn’t mention Staley by name, her line about wanting to play for a coach “who knows what they’re doing” sparked plenty of speculation among fans that it was a not-so-subtle dig at her former program.

Now in Baton Rouge, Fulwiley is expected to take on a much larger role. After starting just three of her 77 games during her two years in Columbia, she’s projected to be the starting point guard for the Tigers this season.

Fulwiley will headline a star-studded LSU lineup alongside Flau’Jae Johnson, Mikaylah Williams, Grace Knox, and Kote Koval, as Mulkey’s Tigers chase another national championship.

With her explosive athleticism and newfound confidence under Mulkey’s system, Fulwiley looks ready to shine — and perhaps prove that her bold offseason move was the right one.
