Taylor Brown Becomes South Carolina’s Fifth Official Visitor of the Fall
South Carolina has locked in an official visit with point guard Taylor Brown, making her the fifth known official visitor to Columbia this fall. The 5-7 guard out of Long Island Lutheran, a New York basketball powerhouse, will visit the weekend of September 19, joining a visit schedule that already includes a completed trip to Tennessee (June 25) and upcoming stops at Virginia Tech (September 3) and North Carolina (October 3).
Notably, Brown appears to have shifted her plans after receiving South Carolina’s offer — she had previously scheduled an August 29 visit to Florida State that she now seems to have canceled, suggesting the Gamecocks’ interest carried real weight in reshaping her recruitment timeline.
Brown’s rankings place her among the top point guards in the 2027 class: 19th overall by Rivals, 24th by 247, and 30th by ESPN, generally regarded as the third-best point guard in the class behind top-five prospects Kaleena Smith and Jezelle “GG” Banks. Her on-court profile is well-rounded — a skilled scorer who shares the ball effectively and plays lockdown defense, having earned the nickname “The Glove,” borrowed from NBA great Gary Payton. She was a Naismith All-American Underclassmen Honorable Mention as a sophomore, though she’s been sidelined since February with an unspecified ACL injury.
South Carolina extended its offer to Brown in May, part of a broader recruiting push at the position given how few scholarships remain available. With the Gamecocks expected to field a small incoming class — potentially as few as three open spots — point guard is clearly a prioritized need, reflected in how many top guards are visiting this fall.
Brown isn’t recruiting in isolation for South Carolina’s attention. Banks, the class’s fourth-ranked overall prospect, has confirmed official visits to South Carolina, LSU, Texas, and Ohio State, with her LSU visit set for the weekend of September 4 and Texas for September 18 — though her South Carolina and Ohio State visit dates remain unannounced. Notably, both Texas and South Carolina made in-person visits to see Banks on September 2, underscoring how competitive her recruitment has become.
South Carolina also has a visit locked in with Oregon point guard Kaylor Buse, who has already completed official visits to Washington and TCU. She’ll continue her tour with stops at Utah (September 11) and Oregon (September 18) before closing out her process with a visit to South Carolina on October 2 — meaning the Gamecocks now have three of the class’s top point guard prospects on campus at various points this fall, giving Dawn Staley’s staff multiple real opportunities to address the position directly.
