ESPN’s College GameDay rolled into Eugene, Oregon on Saturday, setting the stage for a top-10 clash between the Oregon Ducks and the undefeated Indiana Hoosiers. The pregame spectacle featured the usual lineup — Rece Davis, Desmond Howard, Pat McAfee, Nick Saban, and Kirk Herbstreit — and while the focus was on the Big Ten showdown, the crew didn’t ignore the SEC action brewing in Baton Rouge.
One of the matchups that caught the show’s attention was South Carolina’s road trip to LSU, a high-stakes SEC battle under the lights in Death Valley.
Every week, College GameDay highlights key games and “SuperDog” picks — underdogs with a chance to surprise. Analyst “Stanford Steve” Coughlin put his faith in the Gamecocks this week, choosing South Carolina as one of his SuperDog selections.
“South Carolina needs this one,” Coughlin said. “They’ll play well enough to have a chance to win.”
While he stopped short of predicting an outright upset, Coughlin backed Shane Beamer’s squad to “keep it close” and stay within the 9.5-point spread against LSU.
However, when the main panel — Howard, McAfee, Saban, and Herbstreit — revealed their official Week 7 picks, the South Carolina–LSU matchup didn’t make their featured slate.
Still, all eyes will be on Baton Rouge Saturday night as the Gamecocks (3-2, 1-2 SEC) look to shake things up against the No. 13-ranked Tigers (4-1, 1-1 SEC).
Kickoff is set for 7:45 p.m. (Eastern) at Tiger Stadium, better known as Death Valley, which is already sold out for the SEC showdown. Fans can tune in live on SEC Network or stream the action via the ESPN app as South Carolina looks to defy the odds under the bright Baton Rouge lights.
