ESPN’s Paul Finebaum Mocks South Carolina After Collapse: “Beamer Will Never Forget Watching Fans Ready to Take Down the Goalposts”

ESPN’s Paul Finebaum Praises Alabama’s Poise in Stunning Comeback Win Over South Carolina

Longtime ESPN analyst Paul Finebaum, known for his sharp insight on Alabama football, had high praise for the Crimson Tide’s 29-22 comeback victory over South Carolina, calling it one of the program’s more impressive wins in recent memory — both for its context and its setting.

Alabama pulled off its largest fourth-quarter comeback since 2021, erasing a 22-14 deficit with less than 10 minutes remaining. The rally included a creative two-point conversion, a forced fumble on quarterback LaNorris Sellers, and a 25-yard touchdown run by Germie Bernard, sealing the comeback inside a hostile Williams-Brice Stadium.

“The shot of all the South Carolina students coming down to march on the field and take the goalposts down will never get out of Shane Beamer’s memory bank. That was fantastic,” Finebaum said on The Matt Barrie Show Sunday. “It was just stunning to watch. The poise that (Alabama) had. (Offensive coordinator) Ryan Grubb dialing up home run after home run in critical moments of the game — which was missing last year when Alabama couldn’t get out of its way.”

Finebaum also echoed host Matt Barrie’s comments on how challenging it is to play in Columbia, noting that the atmosphere at Williams-Brice Stadium is among the toughest in college football.

Williams-Brice when the sun goes down is difficult, and for Alabama to pull that off was remarkable,” Finebaum said.

With the dramatic road win behind them, Alabama (7-2) will have a bye in Week 10 before facing LSU in Week 11, a matchup that could have major implications for the SEC West race.
