Gamecocks in the WNBA: Week 14 — Wilson Makes History as Boston, Gray and Cardoso Shine
Week 14 delivered another strong showing from South Carolina’s WNBA contingent, with several former Gamecocks making significant contributions across the league. A’ja Wilson continued rewriting the WNBA record book, Aliyah Boston powered Indiana through a perfect week, while Allisha Gray and Kamilla Cardoso produced some of their best performances of the season.
For other Gamecocks, the week brought important developments of a different kind. Tyasha Harris made the most of an increased opportunity, Ta’Niya Latson appears to be settling into her new home in Las Vegas, and Zia Cooke continues to fight for her place in Seattle’s rebuilding plans.
A’ja Wilson Keeps Adding to an Extraordinary Resume
The Las Vegas Aces remain one of the league’s premier teams, and Wilson once again provided the biggest individual storyline.
A’ja Wilson — Las Vegas Aces
33 games, 33 starts | 32.2 MPG | 26.1 PPG | 9.6 RPG | 3.1 APG | 2.0 BPG | 1.5 SPG | 41.3% 3PT
Wilson’s three-game stretch included:
- vs. Washington, 86-76 win: 26 points, 13 rebounds, 4 blocks, 2 assists and 2 steals
- vs. Washington, 83-76 win: 15 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 blocks
- vs. Minnesota, 92-87 loss: 32 points, 7 rebounds, 2 steals and a block
The Minnesota matchup carried the feel of a potential Finals preview, but Wilson’s individual milestones were arguably the bigger story.
She now has 62 career double-doubles featuring at least 25 points, a WNBA record. She has also recorded 11 30-point games this season, the most in the league, while becoming only the sixth player in WNBA history to reach 600 career blocks.
Even more remarkable, Wilson surpassed 800 points for a fourth consecutive season. No other player has produced more than two such seasons in league history.
The scoring pace becomes even more impressive when viewed historically. Through 300 career games, Wilson has already accumulated nearly 400 more points than Diana Taurasi had at the same stage.
Allisha Gray Finds Her Scoring Rhythm in Atlanta
Gray delivered one of the strongest offensive weeks among the former Gamecocks, exploding for two outstanding performances during Atlanta’s three-game stretch.
Allisha Gray — Atlanta Dream
34 games, 34 starts | 33.0 MPG | 19.6 PPG | 3.2 RPG | 2.4 APG | 1.3 SPG
Her week:
- vs. Toronto, 107-95 win: 15 points, 5 assists, 3 rebounds and a block
- at Connecticut, 104-69 win: 29 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists
- vs. Indiana, 95-91 OT loss: 32 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists
Gray first established a new season high with 29 points against Connecticut before matching her career best with 32 against Indiana.
The only disappointment was that her 15-point showing came during “Goggles Lish Night,” but the overall week demonstrated how dangerous Atlanta can be when Gray’s scoring game is fully engaged.
Madina Okot — Atlanta Dream
Okot continues to make an impact despite a relatively limited role.
33 games, 2 starts | 9.3 MPG | 5.6 PPG | 3.6 RPG | 58.4% FG
She recorded:
- 1 rebound in two minutes against Toronto
- 4 points and 7 rebounds against Connecticut
- 8 points, 7 rebounds, 2 blocks, an assist and a steal against Indiana
Her production remains impressive considering her modest playing time.
Te-Hina Paopao Returns
Paopao finally returned after missing nearly a month with a right-leg injury.
She did not appear against Toronto or Connecticut, but played nine minutes against Indiana, scoring three points while going 1-for-6 from three.
The performance was understandably rusty, but simply getting back on the floor represents an important step forward.
Atlanta’s upcoming games: at Las Vegas on Aug. 18, at Los Angeles on Aug. 20 and at Phoenix on Aug. 22.
Kamilla Cardoso Gives Chicago Something to Build Around
The Chicago Sky endured another difficult stretch, but Cardoso was one of the team’s brightest spots.
Kamilla Cardoso — Chicago Sky
34 games, 34 starts | 26.5 MPG | 14.8 PPG | 8.7 RPG | 2.4 APG | 1.5 BPG
Her three games produced:
- at Seattle, 97-88 loss: 15 points and 13 rebounds
- at Golden State, 91-71 loss: 20 points, 6 rebounds, an assist, steal and block
- at Seattle, 82-80 win: 22 points, 12 rebounds, 3 blocks, 2 assists and a steal
Cardoso posted two 20-point performances and two double-doubles during the week.
Chicago’s current position makes her production less meaningful in the standings, but it could be extremely important for the franchise’s future. The Sky need dependable pieces to build around, and Cardoso continues to show why she can be one of them.
Chicago’s upcoming games: vs. New York on Aug. 18, vs. Golden State on Aug. 21, and vs. Indiana on Aug. 23.
Aliyah Boston Powers Indiana Through a Perfect Week
Indiana enjoyed one of its best weeks, going 3-0, and Boston was central to that success.
Aliyah Boston — Indiana Fever
32 games, 32 starts | 27.6 MPG | 17.0 PPG | 8.7 RPG | 3.0 APG | 1.2 BPG | 1.5 SPG | 43.2% 3PT
Boston’s numbers:
- vs. New York, 106-92 win: 19 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, steal and block
- vs. Dallas, 98-87 win: 16 points, 10 rebounds, assist, steal and block
- at Atlanta, 95-91 OT win: 18 points, 14 rebounds, 4 assists, 5 steals and 3 blocks
The Atlanta game was particularly impressive. Boston stuffed the stat sheet with 18 points, 14 boards, four assists, five steals and three blocks as Indiana escaped with an overtime victory.
Tyasha Harris Makes Her Opportunity Count
Harris has dealt with an inconsistent role this season, but she delivered one of the week’s most memorable individual performances.
30 games, 4 starts | 14.2 MPG | 4.4 PPG | 1.1 RPG | 2.1 APG
Against Dallas, Harris erupted for 15 points while shooting a perfect 5-for-5 from three-point range, adding two rebounds and a steal.
She followed that with three points, two rebounds and two assists against Atlanta.
Her outside shooting has been inconsistent this season, making the Dallas performance particularly encouraging. Even with limited minutes, Harris showed she can change a game when given the opportunity.
Raven Johnson’s Role Has Shrunk
Johnson’s playing time has become extremely limited.
32 games | 11.0 MPG | 3.3 PPG | 1.8 RPG | 1.3 APG
She played just three minutes against New York, one against Dallas and three against Atlanta, without recording statistics in any of those appearances.
Bree Hall, meanwhile, remained inactive throughout the week.
Indiana’s upcoming games: at Toronto on Aug. 18, at Dallas on Aug. 20, at New York on Aug. 22 and at Chicago on Aug. 23.
Ta’Niya Latson Appears to Be Finding Her Place in Las Vegas
Latson’s move to Las Vegas appears increasingly promising.
Ta’Niya Latson — Las Vegas Aces
5 games | 8.5 MPG | 5.8 PPG | 1.0 RPG | 0.8 APG | 52.9% FG | 50.0% 3PT
Her latest performances:
- vs. Washington, 86-76 win: 5 points, 2 assists, rebound and block in 10 minutes
- vs. Washington, 83-76 win: 3 minutes, no statistics
- vs. Minnesota: inactive
Latson’s first game against Washington was especially encouraging. With Dana Evans injured, Latson stepped into additional rotation minutes and looked comfortable handling the opportunity.
She saw less action in the rematch and was held out against Minnesota, but the bigger picture is positive. After struggling to establish herself with Los Angeles, Latson appears to be carving out a potential role with Las Vegas.
Las Vegas’ upcoming games: vs. Atlanta on Aug. 18, vs. Connecticut on Aug. 20 and vs. Toronto in Vancouver on Aug. 23.
Laeticia Amihere Gets First Career Start
Amihere’s opportunity in Golden State came because starting center Kiah Stokes entered concussion protocol.
Laeticia Amihere — Golden State Valkyries
29 games, 1 start | 11.4 MPG | 3.1 PPG | 3.3 RPG | 1.1 APG | 0.8 BPG
In the 91-71 victory over Chicago, Amihere played 15 minutes and contributed two points, a rebound, assist and steal.
The matchup with former South Carolina teammate Cardoso produced one particularly amusing moment. After Amihere made life difficult for Cardoso defensively, the Chicago center responded with a hip check after a stoppage.
Apparently, the college rivalry still has some life left in it.
Golden State’s upcoming games: vs. Dallas on Aug. 17, vs. Minnesota on Aug. 19 and at Chicago on Aug. 21.
Zia Cooke Continues to Fight in Seattle
Seattle’s season may already be effectively finished, but Cooke’s individual stakes remain important.
Zia Cooke — Seattle Storm
37 games | 14.8 MPG | 7.5 PPG | 1.6 RPG | 0.9 APG
Her week:
- vs. Chicago, 97-88 win: 16 points, 2 rebounds and an assist
- vs. Portland, 84-82 loss: 4 points
- vs. Chicago, 82-80 loss: 10 points, assist and steal
Cooke continues to compete despite Seattle’s difficult season. At this stage of the campaign, every productive stretch can matter because she is effectively auditioning for her next opportunity.
Her ability to provide instant scoring could be particularly important as teams evaluate their rosters for the next season.
Seattle’s upcoming game: at Dallas on Aug. 23.
Sania Feagin’s Season Comes to an Early End
Feagin’s 2026 campaign has unfortunately already been cut short.
The Portland Fire announced that she suffered a torn left ACL on July 9. She subsequently underwent surgery on July 22.
Before the injury, Feagin appeared in three games and averaged 3.4 minutes, 0.0 points, 0.3 rebounds and 0.7 assists.
Her absence is a difficult setback for a young player trying to establish herself professionally, but the successful surgery provides the first step toward her eventual return.
The Week 14 Gamecock Takeaway
The latest WNBA week highlighted just how different the paths of South Carolina’s former stars have become.
Wilson continues to operate at an historic level, adding another collection of milestones to what is already an extraordinary career. Boston remains a foundational piece for Indiana, while Gray reminded everyone of her scoring ceiling with consecutive explosive games.
Cardoso’s offensive surge gives Chicago reason for optimism, while Harris demonstrated that she can still provide an immediate scoring punch when her opportunity arrives. Latson, meanwhile, may finally be settling into a rotation role with Las Vegas.
For Cooke, the remaining games are about proving she deserves another contract, while Amihere’s first career start provided another valuable professional experience. And for Feagin, the focus has shifted entirely toward rehabilitation after an unfortunate ACL injury.
With the regular season moving toward its decisive stages, the former Gamecocks aren’t simply representing South Carolina — they’re competing for playoff positioning, rotation spots, contracts and, in Wilson’s case, another chapter in WNBA history.
