South Carolina Offers Scholarship to 2027 Defensive Back Aamaury Fountain
South Carolina football is looking ahead to the future, and on Thursday the Gamecocks extended a scholarship offer to class of 2027 defensive back Aamaury Fountain.
Fountain, a standout from Northside High School in Warner Robins, Georgia, has seen his recruitment surge in recent weeks. In just one week, he has collected at least six Power Conference offers, including from SEC rivals Tennessee, Auburn, Texas A&M, and now South Carolina. His home-state program, the Georgia Bulldogs, is also showing strong interest.
Fountain shared the Gamecocks’ offer on social media, making sure to give credit to South Carolina defensive backs coach Torrian Gray.
At 6-foot-2 to 6-foot-3, depending on the source, Fountain brings the kind of size and athleticism Gray looks for in the secondary. He uses his length to his advantage, pairing it with strong instincts and football IQ that have turned heads this fall.
Interestingly, this season marks Fountain’s first year playing cornerback. Previously a quarterback, he transitioned to defense this past summer — a move that has quickly paid off. His explosiveness and adaptability have made him a fast learner, and coaches believe his upside will only grow with more experience at the position.
Though Fountain is still new to the recruiting scene and has not yet received an official rating, analysts expect that to change soon given the early attention he’s drawing from elite programs.
South Carolina, which does not yet have a commitment in the class of 2027, has a track record of success with players making similar position switches. Senior DQ Smith and 2026 pledge Triston Lewis both transitioned from quarterback to the secondary, carving out roles in Columbia.
With Fountain’s rapid rise and his new offer from the Gamecocks, he has quickly become one of the most intriguing young defensive prospects in the Southeast.
