South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer made a major move on Sunday, announcing the dismissal of offensive coordinator Mike Shula following the Gamecocks’ 30-14 loss to No. 7 Ole Miss in Week 10.
The Gamecocks’ offense has struggled to find consistency all season despite high hopes entering the year with LaNorris Sellers at quarterback. Beamer admitted during a Sunday night teleconference that the offense’s performance simply wasn’t meeting expectations.
“Gotta be better… that’s why I made the change,” Beamer said. “I believed it was the right decision last December, and frankly, it hasn’t worked.”
Under Shula’s direction, South Carolina’s offense sputtered during a four-game losing streak, managing just 22 points in its best outing — a close loss to Alabama — while scoring only 10, 7, and 14 points in the others.

With a bye week ahead, Beamer and his staff will have time to regroup before facing No. 3 Texas A&M in College Station in two weeks. The timing of the decision gives the Gamecocks an opportunity to reassess and reset their offensive approach before entering the toughest stretch of the season.
