Coach Dawn Staley has never been wrong about a guard from the Atlanta area — and her latest offer to Morghan Reckley suggests she has no intention of breaking that streak. The South Carolina Gamecocks head coach has extended a scholarship offer to one of the most electric young prospects in the country, and the basketball world is taking notice.
Reckley, a class of 2028 standout from Sandy Creek High School in Fayetteville, Georgia, recently announced that South Carolina had extended a scholarship offer her way. The 5-foot-7 point guard had just taken an unofficial visit to USC, which she described as “amazing,” and the Gamecock offer now stretches her list to at least 23 power conference programs. On3
The offer comes as no surprise to those who have been watching Reckley develop. Reckley has been a known commodity since middle school, and as a high school sophomore, she is already considered one of the best prospects in the country regardless of graduation class. Despite her age, she earned a spot on the Naismith Girls’ High School Player of the Year watch list this season. On3
Now, she’s adding another major accolade to her résumé — a spot on the USA Basketball U17 National Team. This follows her previous international run, where Reckley won a 2025 FIBA U16 AmeriCup Gold Medal for Team USA. Scouts noted that she was one of the most versatile guards in America and a true point guard — one who controls tempo, scores when she wants to, and makes sure all her teammates are involved. On the court, the film speaks for itself. Reckley shows off impressive speed both with and without the basketball and is a menace in transition. In the halfcourt, she uses her quickness and smooth handle to get to the rack and finish from either side. Defensively, she has great instincts for jumping passing lanes and is a threat to take any steal the distance for two points, staying in front of virtually any ball handler. On3
Staley knows a thing or two about Atlanta-area guards — current Gamecock backcourt members Raven Johnson and Ta’Niya Latson hail from the area, as did former standouts like Te’a Cooper, Kaela Davis, and others. On3 Reckley would fit right into that lineage.
With a gold medal on her résumé, 23+ scholarship offers, and now a coveted nod from one of women’s basketball’s greatest coaches, Morghan Reckley is more than a prospect — she is a program-changer in the making. And Dawn Staley clearly already knows it.
